Friends, family, and future degenerates, welcome to the first installment of Boz’s Beats! In this blog we are going to keep you up to date on the gambling world, and dive into some games that either covered at the last second or just didn’t even come close to covering and took the money right out of my wallet. Along with this, you'll get a bit more insight as to what I consider when making picks, putting together a parlay, and how to understand the lingo of the gambling world so that one day you can jump right in and take the bull by the horns! Let's get involved!
1. Eagles (+10.5) - Seahawks
This beat right here is on our list this week because it capped off what was an incredible gambling weekend for your boy! As some people may say, and I'm sure Nicholas Cage may disagree, “live betting is the true national treasure of America.” Now I do not know if anyone has actually ever said that, but it sounded cool so let’s roll with it. The spread on the Eagles last drive of the game was +10.5, with about 2:15 seconds to go in the game with Eagles getting the ball back and down 14 points. The Eagles didn’t have an offense all game, so why would I take that? Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and “gamble the rent," as a close friend would say. Not only did the Eagles score a touchdown to cover, but the way they covered was insane! Richard Rodgers catching a tipped Hail Mary with 12 seconds to go in the game! Did you see that happening!? Well, it did and the Boz easily (lucky but easily) covered the Eagles at 10.5. Sometimes luck is all you need to pull off a miraculous win or cover. Side note: Richard Rodgers is no stranger to the Hail Mary, being the second time in his career that he reeled in a long ball, the first of which being the MIRACLE Aaron Rodgers bomb to beat the Lions at Ford Field in 2015.
2. Cardinals (-1) - Pats
This beat is the opposite of the last one where instead of making this weekend even better, it really bites you in the you know what. This game was a part of the bets of the week, where we went 2-1, and got back to the winning ways. We could’ve been 3-0, if Zane Gonzalez knew how to kick a football. Unfortunately, kickers are not my friend in 2020, and Zane shanked a field goal late in the game when it was tied 17-17 with about a minute to go. Instead of being up 3, the Cardinals couldn’t cover -1 and let Cam Newton walk down the field to set up a game winning field goal for Nick Folk to knock off one of the hottest teams in the NFL 20 - 17. Zane Gonzalez learn from Nick Folk about kicking under pressure and maybe next time we will cover.
3. College Basketball Over/Under
The college basketball season started last week and one thing really stood out. This year might be the year of taking the over A LOT. From what I saw and researched about this past week, about 75% of the games played the over hit instead of the under. I believe the reason for that is because teams did not have a lot of time to prepare for the season, so less defense is played to conserve energy. We will have to see if this trend continues throughout the season, especially with games being cancelled as much as they are. O/U in college basketball is usually low compared to the NBA because of the talent differentials, so if I were you I would continue to follow the trend and hammer the over. We are going to have to see how the season pans out, but for right now I am Mr. Over in College Basketball.
I hope you enjoyed the first edition of Boz’s Beats and continue to follow this blog for updates on crazy finishes, bet trends to follow, teams that are good against the spread, and an inside look behind the curtain into the mind of a gambler.
